About Gaven
Gaven is a relatively new electorate, created from the southern end of the Albert electorate prior to the 2001 state election. The sitting National Party Member for Albert, Bill Baumann, stood for Gaven in 2001, but lost to Labor’s Robert Poole. After Mr Poole's resignation, Gaven was won by the Nationals Alex Douglas in the by-election on the 1st of April 2006. At the 2006 general election on the 11th of September, Dr Douglas was defeated by Labor’s Phil Gray.
During 2008, another Queensland electorate redistribution will take place. Due to the population explosion in the Gaven and Albert electorates, it is likely there will be significant changes to the Gaven electorate before the next election.
